So my excitement of getting my Hardwoods is dwindling fast. Monday the crew came out and ripped up all the carpet & linoleum - When they went to open the boxes of flooring the color didn't match what we selected. Same brand, same color written on the box - Just not stained the same - So we opted to get the right color. Our installer had to order from distributer to his wharehouse and it was supposed to be here yesterday and they were to install today. WELLL we're guessing because of the Gas issues - The delivery is delayed!!!!! So we have been living upstairs completely for 4 days. Jon jokes that we can get sidewalk chalk and play four square or hopscotch on our concrete floors... I'm soo over it! I'm limited what I can do and cooking dinner is a challenge - SIGH!
Sigh.... So I've been offered a job ... ironically back with a previous company So I went on my "interview" yesterday and now have a BIG BIG Decision to make... I think it's a no brainer ... I just have to convince my emotions and heart. Waking up this a.m. and looking at Little Person doing her happy thing I couldn't help but, think how I won't get to just sit and watch her in the a.m. like I do now... Specially lately since she has begun to discover her world even more lately - Making new noises and grabbing and exploring something new EveryDay!!! I also can't help but, think of all the "special" things we do thru out our days - Like baby exercise and our baby education .... I know I should feel oh so lucky that life's little obstacles actually gave me 3 months home with my daughter ... So I'm going to focus on that positive thought as I make my decision to go back to work
So yes we took Hannah to a Bar! Well Kinda - We went out to lunch with our Friends Marc & Rachel for Marc's Birthday & it was Football kickoff Day as well! So the boys had to be able to watch the games - So we went to the brand new Hickory Tavern by our house. Hannah Was awesome even if some excited football fans got a little loud in the early game. After lunch Hannah and myself left daddy to watch the rest of the days games! Go Bears!
Since when did my back yard become the Amazon? Seriously... I have never seen Mosquitos the size of the ones that are following Mercy into my house - I'm like a hunter with an old dish towel in my own home - I feel like there should be a whispery australian accent voice over as I swat at them. Poor Mercy thinks I'm swatting at him because they're all catching a ride on his back. The Bloody splatter they leave behind has called for a copius amount of cleaning products. Looking at one close up is truly scary! The longest "suckers" I've ever seen & yes one or two have gotten me - Argh Why they only follow my Rotty & not my Boxer??? Who knows but, it's like they think he's a portal to sweet blood...
It seems as we creep up on her 3 month birthday , She's doing something different everyday! For a few weeks now she's been knawing on her fist as if they were a bone to her brothers. Amazing proportion of her hand to her mouth, Jon and I wonder how it's possible. She has haphazardly found her thumb early in her short little life and some where along the way forgot how to find it til' recently. She'll be chillin' in her swing or bouncer and then the loudest smacking noise comes from that tiny mouth. Since Sunday her new discovery has been best toy she could have! And of course if something is in that hand it's starting to go in too. So outfits and nighties have drooly collars.
I know Hannah wasn't nervous even if I told her what today was bringing to her. I made sure she was in a comfy outfit that wouldn't rub on her leg --- soo maybe this was for my senses too! We were off this a.m. to the doctor, We got measured and weighed - I'm proud to announce she's now 10lbs & 4oz & 22 1/2 inches long. After the sweet Dr. Rachel Weiss saw her - it was time... I did my best to stay calm as the nurse whipped out the syringe - and with out warning a jab into my daughters leg - Holy $#!t ... do they have to go sooo deep!!! was what was going thru my head but all the while I tried to stay calm and cuddle little person after the wailing. And she got a snoopy band-aid :) Of course the rest of today you wouldn't know a thing happened :)
Can't believe Hannah is allready 4 weeks old! Even though it's a little rough to time my day on when I get a shower and get errands and household task done... I have to admit, I probably waste alot of the day just starring at her :)
Baby takes over plans for the birth Vanessa Willis
First-time mom Jaime Shaw had a rock-solid birth plan. The biggies in the plan: going without pain medication, and wanting to labor mostly at home. She would leave for the hospital when her contractions were five minutes apart, she decided. Everything went accordingly, with just one exception. Jaime, 31, and husband Jon, 32, didn't plan for how quickly their baby would come. Hannah Camden Shaw was born in the front seat of her parents' new SUV, right outside the maternity center entrance at CMC-Pineville. According to the dashboard clock, it was 10:37 p.m. June 16.
Man, woman, baby Jaime works in the mortgage industry. She met Jon a retail manager, at UNCCharlotte in the late 1990s. They married in October 2006 on Lake Norman and settled in Steele Creek. They were thrilled to be starting a family, Jaime says. Jon was “super excited” to be her birth coach.
“The biggest thing we practiced was understanding how to roll through contractions with deep belly breaths and to stay focused on it being a process with a happy outcome,” he says. That came in handy the night Hannah was born. He remembers “flying” down Interstate 485 trying to get to the hospital while Jaime screamed in the passenger seat. Running through the relaxation exercises they'd practiced out loud helped her stay calm. That morning, Jaime had a regular weekly prenatal check-up. Hannah was overdue by six days, which is not unusual for a first baby. Jaime was having occasional contractions, but was only a few centimeters dilated.
Obstetrician Sarah Morris said Jaime would probably have the baby that night or the next day, Jaime says. First-time moms usually labor for many hours, so the Shaws headed home. That afternoon, the contractions got stronger, but stayed at about eight minutes apart. Both Jaime's and Jon's mothers were at their home, ready to help.
Sudden change Just before 10 p.m., the contractions suddenly changed. “They were lower in my back and the pressure was different, and I knew something was up,” she says. Their mothers started packing the car while Jon called the doctor to say they were on their way. “We hit every red light on the way there, and it was really frustrating for Jon,” she says. Jon says he wasn't scared until Jaime said her water had broken. “That's when things got crazy,” he says. “She started screaming more and all I could do was drive and try to keep her calm. I had to get her there as fast as I could without killing us all.” The contractions were suddenly four minutes apart and much stronger.
The baby is coming NOW! Jon pulled up to the traffic circle at the maternity center entrance and ran in to get help. The nurses at the station didn't seem to understand his urgency at first, he says. “As I turned to run back out I looked over my shoulder and they weren't moving, so I yelled, ‘No, I'm serious, the baby is crowning in the car right outside, right NOW!' and then it was a mad scramble,” he says. “Seven nurses came flying out the door behind me, and they were awesome.” Morris, of Carmel Obstetrics and Gynecology, happened to be at the hospital to deliver another baby. She was paged and came running out too. “Jaime's mom and I were in the back seat with nurses on either side, and a nurse got into the driver's seat,” Jon says. “Other nurses were surrounding Dr. Morris as the baby came out.” Morris said delivering a baby while standing sideways with a mom's feet on the dashboard “adds an extra dimension” to a birth experience. “I don't know if (Jon) will ever be the same,” she says. “The look on his face when they arrived was pure terror.”
Hannah's speedy arrival earned her the nickname, “the dashboard bullet.” “Two pushes, and I had my baby girl on my chest,” Jaime says. “It was so fast that I didn't think about the pain. I think natural endorphins just kicked in.” Hannah was 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and 20 inches long. “It was just absolutely bananas, but so worth it,” Jon says. “She's here and she's fine, and it's amazing. But next time, we'll definitely leave much earlier.” Morris says in the five years she's been in practice, she's only delivered a baby in a car once before Hannah. “Jaime had a beautiful birth plan about how she wanted to walk and labor in different positions,” Morris said. “I laughed after the baby came and said I didn't remember the dashboard being in there.”
They say everyone who hears Hannah's birth story asks the same question – how messy did the car get? “It was pretty much spotless,” Jaime says of the 2008 Pathfinder. She thinks her sweat pants absorbed most of her amniotic fluid when it began to leak, and the waterproof pads the nurses brought out took care of the rest. “But we're still finding little medical gadgets in the car, though,” she says, laughing. “It's like, ‘Hey, what's this clampy thing?' Oh yeah, I gave birth in the car.”
